Merry Christmas!

Every year Annette does an amazing job with our Christmas newsletter. This year was no exception...

As I read through our blog in search of material for this newsletter I realized that nothing we’ve done seems nearly as interesting as our little Ruby! As easy as it would be to fill the whole page with cute stories about our sweet daughter I’ll try to refrain from being THAT new mom!

In March Preston joined forces with guys from church and my dad to win a dodgeball tournament! Who knew I was married to such a dodgeball master? We also had a water pipe 2 floors above us burst, which led to WEEKS of dehumidifiers, industrial fans, holes in the walls, carpets being pulled up, new paint, etc.... Nightmare.

In April Ruby made her debut! The labor and recovery were less than ideal and those first few weeks were BRUTAL! I mean WOW! Wow wow wow. After a few days of very little sleep I turned to Preston with a tear or two in my eye (ok, ok I was sobbing) and whispered, “life will never be the same again, huh?”

LOTS of things have changed, but our adventures have continued. When Ruby was just 6 weeks old we took a trip out to Texas for Preston to interview in Tyler where his family lives. They loved him (of course) and we’ll be moving there in June when he finishes residency (wahoo - or should I say yee haw)! In the next few months Ruby survived 2 road trips out West for a Sugiyama family reunion and education week.

We were lucky enough to get some tickets to several michigan football games this year. They were all excellent but NOTHING can compare with seeing the maize and blue conquer the buckeyes in person. INCREDIBLE! I tried to take Ruby into the Big House for a game, but apparently ALL wolverine fans need a ticket to get in. Lame.

Ruby is just 7 months old and has already been camping, blueberry picking, and black friday shopping! She is the cutest, sleepiest, sweetest, easiest, calmest, hungriest, smiliest baby ever. She loves bubbles, mirrors, and eating paper. She has mastered pulling down zippers, turning off lights, and hanging up the iphone while I’m talking. Currently she scoots around doing something that resembles an army crawl. She makes us smile everyday.

Preston is busy as ever, adding to his regular work schedule the rigors of being chief and picking up some extra shifts at a nearby hospital. He even joined the Kalamazoo Ultimate Disc League for a few months and had games every week which Ruby and I loved watching. It amazes me how well he can juggle being a dad with all of his professional and church responsibilities. He’s my hero.

Right now I’m just learning how to be a mom - and LOVING it! Ruby is easily the best full time job I’ve ever had. It’s amazing to see her exploring the world and learning new skills. It seems like she changes every single day and I’m grateful that I’m not missing a single moment of it! Sometimes she makes me crazy, but every night we give thanks for having THE best baby in the world.

We send our love to all of you this Christmas season!

Preston, Annette, and Ruby

You guys rock! We'll have to find more time to play before you leave Michigan.

Great recap of your year! I can't believe you'll be leaving Michigan, though... :(
